Artivism in Maine/Belfast Creative Coalition has done it a third time! Their upcoming Alihoop Popup Art Party is this Saturday, September 7th, at the Sheepscot Arts Preserve on 180 Golden Ridge Road in Alna, Maine.
A little slice of heaven.
Come to the banks of the Sheepscot River and explore 42 acres of unspoiled nature. Oh, and there's art, food, a bonfire, and like-minded people who you can share it all with. The opening "proper" is from 4-6, while the bonfire and visiting goes until when the embers die, I reckon.
From the Artivism In Maine Site:
"In anticipation of the upcoming school year we turn attention to our minds, to gathering knowledge and the varying methods of doing so. What wisdom have you gained throughout your life that came from experiences either in a school setting and/or beyond the structure of an institution. What wisdom or knowledge do you wish you had? What information do you have that would be beneficial to others to share and what might be a good way to share it? In a world full of ideas and opinions, information coming at us relentlessly, we rarely have the opportunity to spend time in the space of contemplation of what we are digesting, of what we are being fed. This theme has the potential to bring up the deeper spiritual questions that come as we consider what the mind is, how it works, where it lives and our relationship to it. This third theme invites us to investigate what it is we know, what we believe and why."
I hope to see you there. Here are my two pieces:
Dogstar. Acrylic, alcohol ink, oil, spray mica, compressed gold leaf on 30X40 gallery wrapped canvas.
The One You Feed. Acrylic, Alcohol Ink, Oil, Spray Mica, Compressed Gold Leaf on 30X40 Gallery Wrapped Canvas.
The show itself is an exciting event, but an open house at the Sheepscot Arts Preserve is its own kind of treat. I am so excited about this place, and to say the spot is idyllic is an understatement. Since this is a last second post, I don't have a bunch of pictures of 180 Golden Ridge Road besides the one I filched off Google Maps, so you'll just have to come look for yourself.
From the folks at Sheepscot Arts Preserve:
"Sheepscot Arts Preserve is an artist residency center that is dedicated to supporting Narrative, Visionary and Outsider Artists of all disciplines. We are located on 42 beautiful acres bordering the Sheepscot River in Alna, Maine. The center provides group and individual artist residencies that are completely inclusive, and accept anyone regardless of their financial means. We also host workshops, pop up shows, and community events.
We especially encourage self taught artists, marginalized artists, and all other artists, who feel that they defy the easy definitions of the mainstream art world, to join our events. Our goal is to create a space for a diverse cross section of artists at all stages of their art career, to briefly come together, inspire each other, and then bring that energy back out into the world."
The evening soundtrack will be provided courtesy of The Outhouse Association, an acoustic duo from Eagle Island in East Penobscot Bay.
Event is absolutely free, but if you're so inclined to bring something to eat or drink, or have some art books you'd like to donate to the arts center's growing library, that would be lovely.
