Oh, hey! I'm Maine artist Rachel Robbins.

Inspired by the rich jewel tones of Maine's coast and woods (plus a lot of daydreaming) I paint spiritual Goddessy portraiture and celestial playlands. Each piece is made with intention; their ethereal presence and biophilic beauty opens a door to peaceful reflection in any space. My work is held in private collections, juried gallery exhibitions, wellness centers, fine dining establishments, and luxury retreats throughout New England. Hi, I rechristened my Etsy shop; it officially called "ArtistRachelRobbins" because "artist" comes up on the Etsy search bar and Eclectic doesn't. It's an SEO thing. Anyway, I have this funky painting, and it's cousin of a triple-goddess and an owl which is also on this IG page somewhere; they have matching "pseudo-vintage" frames, so I did a "buy both, get 20% off deal" for those who are into dark academia, whimsigoth, and #fallvibes. There are 25 new mini-paintings (not super mini, this means 11x17 and under) but these are larger: 16x20 circumference, and the only framed pieces at the moment. So go check it out!

Well, thunder only happens when it's raining, and needless to say I don't want my artwork to get all wet this afternoon. No Right As Rain at the Gardiner Waterfront. [Last I heard, the show is still happening, thunder or not.]However, I still have several 100% cotton, woven blankets --NOT sublimated ugggahs-- from the lovely hills of North Carolina which are still available. [Except the one I'm standing on of the moon goddess and owl, but I can order one. I'm keeping this because I freaking love it. Since the weavers' prices have gone up, this is the last time I can offer Soul Weave blankets for $165 plus shipping or free local pickup.

Sadly, this is the last of the summer Johnson Hall series, but I will SORTA be doing one last outdoor art sale at Old Bowdoinham Days. This is just a cool photo of rusty skeleton keys I got out antiquing today. I figure if mini-painting keychains are $35/each they should include a magic key. I also just thought they looked SO pretty with the pictures; it's like how you just want to find the perfect frame for a piece. Intricate, hand-painted keychains are definitely a one-time project. It turns out my shaky hands don't like working small with this mich mixed media messy...ll find an easier keychain trick. Friday Night Johnson Hall Concert Series withJenny Jumpstart and the Cap Guns. I'm too worn out still from two loads and unloads of the U-haul to write anything long and flowery, but it was a lot of fun, and I had some very sweet helpers, saw ol friends, made new ones, and my customers were lovely (note the model in her new Spirit Shawl). Thank you to everyone who came out to support local musicians, artists, and restaurants. Biggest thanks of all to my brother Josh who seriously saved the day with my angry canopy frame, heavy lifting in Gardiner, bring cute people to entertain me between guests, and even a cheeseburger to have when I got home. 🍔 I didn't get a chance to take pictures when the sun was still bright, but you can get an idea. My booth looked awesome even though / because I lefft the actual CANOPY part at home. Tomorrow night is the Gardiner Art Walk, conveniently timed when I'm at the waterfront with some of my pretty things for sale...or just pick up and look at. Art Walk is 5-8, throughout downtown GAHHHD-Nah. The Johnson Hall Summer music (will find out band and update this) is 6-8:30. Art vendors, food trucks, face painting, balloon animals, etc. Fun stuff! I promise to be there this time, 75 as opposed to 95 means I'll have my game face on. And I hope to see your lovely faces. I'm a lifelong Mainer and haven't spent any time hanging out in Bangor at all, it's always just struck me as a means to a music venue, a stressful part of the highway when you're trying to go elsewhere, where Stephen King's house is...etc. So, like the saying goes, "I hahdly knewah!"

Has downtown Bangor always been so cool and no one told me? There is an antique store/tea house across the street from here. Seem to be a lot of vintage and consignment situations. I am curious! And it's just an hour and a half from my house. Everything, everone, everywhere is an hour and a half from my house. I need to go back before it's cold and sad outside.

"Life on Mars." Alcohol ink, activated charcoal, acrylic, oil detail, compressed gold on 16x20 birch panel. This was mostly a big piece of purple I did several years ago and seemed to think it was finished, but it wasn't. Isn't. I will be giving her a nose job, obviously. There will always be room for more gilding, and also I wonder if I should paint three tiny mice in her hair or if that't too On The Nose (pun not intended but I cant unsee it) which it is. Since bedtime was a couple hours ago and I've got to have my game face on tomorrow (whatever that means) I should call it a night and quit poking at this painting.

The crickets started their conversation tonight. Just a big bowl full of wrong, right there. I thought that wasn't supposed to happen until September. Crickets, I mean, and their cheerful chatter. It's too early to start thinking about fall outside of the aisles of craft stores and trying to write SEO-friendly descriptions of paintings on etsy. They must be confused, the peepers of Autumn.

Every Friday this month there's live music on the Gardiner Waterfront, food trucks, balloon twister guys, face painters, kids' activities, and yupppp a bunch of us vendors! I don't know if I'm doing table or booth tomorrow, but think I'm peddlin' me blankets. If you need something to sit on in the grass while you have your picnic or what have you, these babies are 100% cotton Jacquard woven in some cute little Carolina town...it's been awhile since I got these done, I want to say Ashville, NC but will double check. They are soft and comforting and oh-so-very hygge and look beautiful not just as a functional warmy but to hang on the wall and gaze at lovingly.

It occurred to me I never posted the (mostly) finished version of my triple bunny moon goddess girl. She still wants gold leaf on the outer edge because I have a gilding problem, and I keep forgetting to sign my paintings. And a wire. One of my summer goals is/was to finish paintings. Sometimes when I write an intention in a public forum, I'm more likely to follow-up. Oh, yes...and a title. Ideas?

Welp! It looks like I haven't been over here in a million years.

Quick update: Starting this Friday and running all through August, I’ll be peddling my wares at the Gardiner Waterfront during the Johnson Hall Friday Night Concert Series 6:30-8:30.

Free live music, kids' activities (think twisty balloons, face painting, et al), food trucks, and a bunch of us local vendors doing our thing.

Bring a blanket and lawn chairs. Also, speaking from experience, Gardiner gets PACKED for these things. Come early, or prepare for a rather long evening stroll.

In other news....I'm making a coloring book! I’ve been feeding my artwork into an app, and it cranks out images that look like my paintings... but kinda Barbie? You get 20 pages for $10 a month. Honestly, about 3 out of 5 turn out decent enough to keep me subscribed.Swipe to see a few of the pages I found acceptable. Hopefully, I’ll have enough for a juicy book by September so I can start selling them in time for the holidays.

There's such a connection between Maine people and nature, and...I don't know, here are my wild blueberry fairies. I celebrate the resilience of the human spirit. These are some blueberry fairies I started painting out by the lake the other day when I could perfectly match the colors. They're making me happy, which is nice, as I've been kinda blue. Sorry.

I thought of something, because blueberry fairies is a rather odd and silly piece.

It's about AI.

Artists, not only is AI not going to put you out to pasture, you are going to get so much better because of AI. Hear me out. You are free. Because NOW you kind of have to prove you aren't AI. This is for you writers, too. You are free. Bad grammar it up. Make up those words you always wanted! Here's what's the what:

AI has given us artists and writers permission to wear our experiments, our mistakes, our drippies, our drafts, our strange, our messy on our dirty sleeves. There's going to be way more interesting stuff...because AI can not Creative Chaos. AI can't Art. It can hallucinate six fingers and it can make up stupid non-facts and it can uncanny valley all it wants, but AI always smells like a Ken doll's armpit and sounds like orange juice after you brush your teeth.

Go get weird.

"Are You My Mother?" Pastel on 18x24 mixed media paper.

A Cosmic Re-Imagining of the Classic Search for Belonging. The title directly mirrors the famous children’s book where a hatchling asks various animals if they are its mother. Here, I flip the question into a beautiful, comforting reality. The baby is not lost or crying. Instead, the infant sleeps peacefully, already answered by the presence of the kangaroo and the fox cub. The artwork suggests that the answer to "Are you my mother?" is a resounding yes from the entire natural world.

"Firefly" blends the concept of human motherhood with the birth of the Infinite. It suggests that the act of creation (whether bringing a new life into the world or dreaming a new idea into existence) is a sacred, cosmic event tied to the natural rhythms of the universe. Additionally, "Firefly" is a manifestation of the Internal Spark: While a firefly is a creature of the dark night, the piece turns that concept inward. The massive, glowing orb in her abdomen (baby bump, y'all) acts as the firefly’s bioluminescent lantern. It represents the focus on finding and expanding one's internal light during times of darkness or self-reflection.

I feel like this is done, though it seems like a no brainer that gold leaf should go on a firefly fairy, but any time some part of me ever said "Stop!" and I didn't listen, I regretted my choice. Also, I was going to put grass in the foreground, like she's been spotted in a field of clover and timothy. But the fairy took on a very surreal and almost sci-fi look to her, I don't know...I think she's finished. "Firefly" doesn't feel like I should spend more than 15 hours. Don't let me forget to sign this and please help me think of a grabbier title.

My friend Becky caught this shot of me taking a reference photo of my "new girl" WIP yesterday at Lake St. George. While working last night I decided she's some sort of firefly fae.

The moment in time she captured is pure kismet. Unconsciously, my body had settled into an accidental modified Malasana (Yogi Squat)...a posture rooted in the grounding and feminine creation of life as I faced and photographed my own creation, as she rested against the tree, rooted safely in Momma Earth. Recursion!

When we're connected to our work, the characters who emerge mirror our soul. When we "Draw Down the Spirit", we share an experience with our art; we ARE the characters and stories we create. As shown in yesterday's post, the forest creature on that tharr paper is WICKED pregnant, while also waiting to be born into the world. My somatic art process works through body, hands, heart, and spirit before your mind even realizes it.

This deep, intuitive connection is exactly what we'd be exploring in my upcoming MAYBE Drawing Down the Spirit workshops. If I can get five people committed to joining me.

Again, we wouldn't be starting you sitting outside (I don't want students collecting ticks on my watch), you're not "required" to do any kind of posing -- Mine, like I said, are incidental and accidental. Your hands will be extremely dirty, though, there's lots of massaging your pastels into paper. Your muscles may be sore, as you will be throwing your body into it. After a few hours painting or drawing, I'm both drained and exhilarated....and want that for you.

But ultimately, when you work with me (I taught formally for 10 years in another life) you are is super-self directed. I'm just a mover, not a shover-- but we WILL be exploring how to connect body, heart, and art. <3

I'm excited to finally do this and quit just talking about it. Hanging out making stuff side-by-side with a friend yesterday reminded me how powerful it can be when women create together. Let's do this. Drop me a line, and I'll find us a space to find our spirits together.

Also, I started a pregnant pastel forest lady-creature out at Lake St. George today. Perfect water, perfect weather, perfect afternoon...until I ran out of eraser!

[Said bare bones of goddess waiting right here on the spiral pad, leaning against a tree in the Liberty breeze. Will work on her tonight...and tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow.]

While working with my friend Becky, chatting about what I was doing on all fours, massaging pastel onto the pad while in some semblance of Bharmanasana (yoga-speak for 'table top' pose) all sunk down into the ground, grateful for 'Flick the Tick Spray', I told her that this is what I keep PLANNING to share during the future Drawing Down the Spirit workshops I keep promising myself I'll start teaching.

I swear that in [early] classes we would not be down on the ground, though we WILL explore my somatic process so you can truly connect with your inner artist.

And not be discouraged by the messy beginnings, like this rough fairy-goddess-lady.
