Opening Night of Munka's "Yellow" Exhibit...Updated

Updated to include closing night, which is tomorrow: June 30th. Enjoy the Friday night art walk on Lisbon Street in Lewiston, and say hi to the artists as they come pick up their paintings. [Some of us. I can't, unfortunately.] From their FB page:

Event by Munka Studio

Duration: 3 hr

Public

Come enjoy the downtown artwalk and visit Yellow, our current art exhibition featuring 40 pieces by 30 artists.

There will be additional artwork for sale by Yssolo, the artist who made Ôfeco ya Áfrika (African girl), which is currently on display as part of Yellow.

Munka will also have Christie Fecteau selling crocheted animals. She can be found on Instagram @christiescuties.

We can't wait to see this Friday!

The entire street will be abuzz with art events and food and all kindsa stuff, so you should really go. July and August art nights are always the best ones, for real. The weather may even be agreeable.

Here's my original write-up about the Yellow show, in case you miss tomorrow night. There were a ton of mistakes in it and I was dissatisfied so I took it down, but am working on being more comfortable with imperfection.

This is more of an announcement than a post. I have been writing a post for over a week and have no idea when it will be completed. Meanwhile, please check out Munka Gallery's spring show, "Yellow." Exhibit opens this Friday night from 5-7, and runs through June 30th. 240 Maine artists entered, thirty were chosen, and one of 'em is boasting. I'll be there with my son, grandson, and a small dog for maybe half an hour, depending on how long they all behave. Here's the flyer, y'all:

Can't make it? Here's my painting that got in, called "The Quickening." It's charcoal, acrylic, gold alloy, alcohol ink, and Tim Holtz DISTRESS POWDER on a 16x20 canvas, and I truly wish I'd taken a pic of it framed before running out the door, because I scored an extremely cool vintage 1970s ornate bronzey lookin' beast with a goldenrod velveteen trim. Fabulous.

UPDATE with some photos from the exhibit.

All artists, titles, prices are listed on Munka site. Please support your local artists.

Please let me add that this collection is by no means ALL of them, and I didn't exclude anyone on purpose, it was just busy and I was trying not to butt in front of people. I've continued to add more photos as I've cleaned them up a bit, and will add more. Hopefully.

Special person and I admiring Caroline Davis' beautiful Magnolias and Warblers.

I'm such a fangirl when it comes to Laurie Babineau's mixed media works:

Below is "Quickening." I fell in love with the frame, which has a velvet goldenrod trim to die for. As impractical as it may be, discovering a vintage frame tucked behind a pile of things in some roadside attraction like Elmer's Barn in Whitefield makes me pretty happy.

Yeahhhh....sorry about the quality of these photos, and you reallyreallyreally have to zoom in to see artists' names/titles of pieces. Here's a link to the Munka Gallery exhibits page to get a better look of individual pieces:

Rather than continue apologizing, or digging through photos which are hard to retrieve from my Wix folder, I'll end with this quote which inspires some of my work. It took awhile to find a meme of it printed on a yellow background to follow theme of the show and the post, but here ya go. Isn't this supposed to be a creative inspo blog?

Onward and upward,

Rachel
