Shrine to Brigid. Oil, acrylic, alcohol ink, distress oxide. 16X20X3
"Reveals" Art Exhibit at Munka Gallery in downtown Lewiston, Maine. August 28- October 1. Opening reception 5-8 on August 25th for Final Friday Artwalk presented by L/A Arts. Check out the Munka website for more information about the show, gallery hours, to make an appointment, renting yourself an affordable studio, and the quickly growing cooperative they've made happen out on 221 Lisbon Street in Downtown Lewiston. https://www.munkastudio.com/gallery
In case you haven't gathered from the name of the show, the theme is an exploration of artwork that reveals something, either literally (as in my piece, see photos) or figuratively. [I'm guessing, the show hasn't happened yet, but I'll add pictures once it does.] My piece is an interactive one, and goes kind of like this:
You're looking at a hanging box/cabinet/possibly upcycled vintage dartboard, approximately 16x20. Oil paint and alcohol ink, plus some oxidation spray for major distress. Super shimmery, lots of metallics. It looks super-old, as in older than the 50 years or whatever it was before I went to town on it. I so want to geek out on the art process, but don't want to get super boring. If you'd like to know how I do this stuff, write a comment below and I'll fill you in. This is how you open it up, and how it kinda looks in no particular order whatsoever:
I started sanding/painting "Brigid" on Imbolc (Feb 1-2 or so) abandoned the project, then picked her up again on Lughnasadh (August 1) because I kept thinking about how much I needed a pagan alter in our home. But now she's going to the Munka Gallery where you can look at her and even leave a little folded note/prayer/spell on her shelf. I may make it an interactive piece. Not sure.
To be continued with photos from the exhibit. Hope to see you there!
As always, Munka Gallery is FREE and open to the public.
Kindly,
Rachel
